A few nights ago our country suffered the deadliest mass shooting on US soil…ever.
Let that sink in for a moment. What happens in Vegas will no longer will stay in Vegas, as this has affected all of us. Las Vegas will be the most prominent story for the next month, and for good reason. It has long been known for concerts, gambling, shows and spectacular sporting events. Most recently the city got an NHL Hockey team and had the infamous McGregor vs. Mayweather fight. But now this carnage has thrown a different light onto this oasis in the desert. People are struggling to cope with the senseless loss of life brought about by a single person. What does God promise to believers in these types of circumstances to help us cope with what we can’t explain? I believe the Bible has the answer.
In Revelations, Chapter 21 it says:
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Wow, what an answer! The God who created everything, who is in charge of everything, and – this is the tough one now – who allows everything to happen for one reason or another, will be there for the Christian when he takes his final breath. The Bible says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Even as our Christian family and friends leave us physically, we have the peace and comfort of knowing they are with their maker. Let us continue to pray for those affected by the tragedy in Las Vegas and to pray that God will heal those broken hearts of those who are left behind. But let us also live with thankfulness in each day of our lives, knowing that every day God gives us is another day of grace.
