Trust the Process.  The Sixers did…Are you doing the same with your own life and with God….

Trust the Process

Sometimes it is very hard in life to trust the process. Just ask the Sixers fans who have had little to cheer about for the past few seasons. Two years ago, the Sixers won 10 games and lost 72. Last year they won a whopping 28 games while losing 54. The team looked and played like a bad college team. Their lottery pick of Joel Embiid could not get on the floor. Ben Simmons, their number one pick, fractured his ankle and never played a single game. But now, the process is starting to show signs of hope. The Sixers are 8-6 this year and have a few wins against quality opponents already. Embiid looks like an early MVP candidate with an incredible touch for a big man. Simmons is moving gracefully and looks like a future all-star. The process is starting to show that patience wins out at the end. Reflecting on the Sixers led me to think about trust, and what and whom we really trust in. In the book of Proverbs, in chapter 3 it says:

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

Can you imagine trusting the Lord with all your heart? What if something terribly goes wrong? I guess that is why the next sentence says lean not on your own understanding. How many times have we got ourselves in trouble by not listening to God and going with our guts and opinions? In all our ways acknowledge him. Not in most of our ways or in some of our ways, but in all of our ways. Why, what happens then? He will direct your path. I think of that famous scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade where Indiana steps off the cliff in a leap of faith with his hands on his heart. Only to have the path revealed to him that he could not see. Once he discovered the path, he sprinkled sand over it so everyone else would be able to clearly see and follow it. This is what God is trying to tell us in this passage. Don’t lean on your education or experience; check in with the One who knows exactly what is going to happen next! I have great hopes for the Sixers future this year and in years to come. How about you and your life?   What are you leaning on? Who are you trusting in?  Have a wonderful weekend!
